Spotlight on Black Star Books
Black Star Books is an exciting new online bookstore focusing largely on Black fiction and non-fiction for children, teens and young adults. Now you no longer have to search here, there and everywhere to get what you need. With over 80 titles, and more stock on the way, Black Star Books offers enough high quality texts, predominantly from Black authors/featuring BIPOC characters, to expand school/class libraries as well as your home collections.
What I particularly love is that the owners have clearly spent time and effort curating lots of lovely good books including popular fiction and non-fiction titles, many of which I have enjoyed and reviewed. It's great to see some STEM books and historical fiction on offer, too! Although there are a currently only a few poetry books in their catalogue, I'm sure this will grow as they gain more support.
One really big plus is that they've added a School Curriculum Recommendations section, so early years and primary educators can find quickly books that are suitable for EYFS, KS1 and KS2. Many of these titles appear on the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education's (CLPE's) core book list, which shows Black Star Books is keen to understand teachers’ needs and aims to support them.
Their website is easy to navigate so orders can be made swiftly, and with free standard delivery over £20, what's not to like? Head over to their website and support this wonderful Black-owned business!
